I find many retro housewife blogs tend to focus more on the
fashion side of retro living, the emphasis is on decorating, and clothing.
These bloggers put their energy into recreating some specific period using
vintage fashions, furnishings, and vehicles.
That is all entertaining and interesting, but I prefer to
focus on a deeper reason for living a retro lifestyle.
Let us look at a few of the iconic TV wives and mothers:
Harriet Nelson - The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet
Margaret Anderson - Father Knows Best
Donna Stone – The Donna Reed Show
June Clever – Leave It to Beaver
All of these women portray stay-at-home mothers busy raising
mannerly children, keeping their homes, and preparing nourishing family meals. These women
are the heart of the home.
They encourage and support their working husbands by
providing him a good breakfast and perhaps a packed lunch, a closet of cleaned
and pressed clothing, a happy, orderly home, a cheerful
welcome home, a hearty dinner, and a best friend and ready companion. What more could a man
want?
I believe the work of the wife and mother is a God given
role.
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good,
obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
While retro fashions are captivating, and vintage
furnishings are appealing, the hidden jewel in the retro lifestyle is the woman
who is the heart of the home.
